ABOUT US
Caitlin Hollen and Karina Morey
Hi! We're two high school seniors who have lived overseas throughout our lives. Our experiences as Third Culture Kids are unique and important, but not always understood by our peers once we come back to the United States after being abroad. This event is aimed at middle school and high school students who have lived overseas for a year or more growing up. TCKCon is a student-driven event in partnership with the Foreign Service Youth Foundation and the D.C. Affiliate of Families in Global Transition for TCKs to form a community in the NoVA/D.C. area. Come socialize with other TCKs, learn from professional speakers, and have the chance to talk about your own experiences with games and breakout sessions. Our speakers will present topics from navigating emotions when moving, repatriation, and how your experience impacts college decisions and applications.
PARTNERS
FOREIGN SERVICE YOUTH FOUNDATION
Organization
Established in 1989, the Foreign Service Youth Foundation is the only nonprofit organization dedicated exclusively to the support of children of employees of the US foreign affairs agencies. Growing up in the Foreign Service can be challenging for our youth. Through publications, outreach, workshops and regular family events, we help young people adapt to their changing environments, as they transition between posts worldwide. We strive to help Foreign Service Youth embrace the adventure by: encouraging resilience, fostering camaraderie, and celebrating achievements.
FAMILIES IN GLOBAL TRANSITION
Organization
The Washington DC Metro Area Affiliate was launched in February 2018 with a mission to:
bring together representatives of the corporate, diplomatic, academic, religious and military sectors present in the DC area to share their cross-cultural coping strategies and expertise
continue the work of FIGT beyond its annual conference by meeting locally to support and educate professionals who work to improve the lives of families in global transition
provide resources in various forms from expert panels to gatherings that are topical to the issues experienced by globally mobile individuals and families
